Space Lab is a research lab under the leadership of Dr. Blagoy Rangelov in the Department of Physics at Texas State University – San Marcos, Texas. Officially founded in 2023, Space Lab has its origins dating back to the Summer of 2019 when students under Dr. Rangelov began developing and launching high-altitude weather balloon missions.

Today, our lab focuses on developing space technology and spacecraft for that technology. We are also home to our ground command, the headquarters for satellite communications here at Texas State University supporting current and future missions. To see a list of space missions currently being developed by our lab, please see the “Current Missions” page.
At Space Lab, our mission is twofold:
1. We are driven by a passion for discovery and innovation, with a commitment to fostering scientific curiosity. We strive to educate the student body of Texas State University in space science and technology through hands-on experience and mentorship.
2. To further our knowledge of the natural world by conducting space research. Collaboration is a hallmark of our lab. Therefore, we also help facilitate research projects for any researcher looking for a gateway into space.

Space Lab thrives on collaboration, working closely with other universities, researchers, and space agencies. We are committed to sharing our knowledge and passion for space science with the broader community through student education and interactive events. We aim to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers to reach for the stars.
