Our mission

Build, fly, and learn.

We design and operate space satellites and the ground systems that talk to them. The lab houses a working ground command — the headquarters for satellite communications at Texas State, supporting current and future missions.

Our mission is twofold. First, to educate the student body in space science and technology through hands-on work and mentorship — fostering scientific curiosity in a real research setting. Second, to advance our knowledge of the natural world by conducting space research, and to act as a gateway for any researcher who needs access to space.

Collaboration & outreach

We work with people, not just hardware.

Space Lab works with other universities, researchers, and space agencies. We share what we build and what we learn through student education and public events — with the goal of getting more people involved in space, regardless of background.

If you’re interested in collaborating, get in touch.
